Take Home Final

The take-home final was handed out this week, but you can click here if you need another copy.

Also, don't forget that if you're choosing option one, these tone-related quotations from the book might be helpful for your concrete details. But of course you can use any quotes you want.

Separating Context and Commentary

(in PowerSchool, this is called "2nd Quotes in Context Worksheet")

Click here for the new worksheet.
Remember, it's fine if you want to use the same quotes from the previous worksheet.

Please note that in PowerSchool this assignment is called "Second Quotes in Context" and is due Feb 26 or 27, depending on what block you're in.

Monday, February 18, 2008

Make-up Assignments for missed quizzes

Please go to PowerSchool and see if you need to make up any quizzes. If you have a "mi" as your grade or scored less than 50%, you can do the make-up.

There are four separate make-up assignments for the quizzes we had, and you can do them open book at your convenience. However, you will have to turn them in by Thursday for it to be reflected in the upcoming progress reports.

The quizzes are identified by the page numbers that were covered, so match it up carefully with the grade in PowerSchool.

Click here for the make-up assignments.

Putting quotations in context

Use this worksheet to write sentences that put certain quotations in context. Choose two characters who talk about loneliness and get three quotes about each of them, for a total of six quotes. The quote can either be something that character says, or something the narrator or another character says about them.

When you put a quote in context, you explain to the reader where in the story this quote occurs. Although you may be tempted to add some commentary (opinion) when you do this, it is not required. On the worksheet, you will write the quote twice -- once on its own, and again in the sentence where you are putting it in context. In some cases, the quotation may be shorter in context, but that's up to you (see example #2).

It is essential that your quotations address the topic of loneliness in some way, whether directly or indirectly. The big layout with all the pages of the book taped down has several loneliness quotations already highlighted, and you are free to use those.

At the top of the worksheet are some examples. Please do not use the examples for your six quotes.

Therapy on the Ranch

Here is the assignment we began today. We will work on this in class Monday through Thursday of this week.

Monday, January 28, 2008

Character Traits

Here is the work we're doing Monday and Tuesday of this week in English 9.

Identify the entrance and initial description of each of the new characters introduced in pages 17-37.

Choose three of these characters and think of some real person who has similar character traits.

These similarities can be physical, personal or a combination of both.
Be sure to describe in one short paragraph what the character and the real person have in common. For this paragraph you are not required to follow the SHAPER guidelines, but you can if you find them helpful.

Friday, January 25, 2008

Lennie/George Comparison paragraph

Here is the worksheet that was handed out today. Remember, what you turn in should simply be one full paragraph, but you would do well to use a shaper to make sure you cover all the requirements explained in the worksheet.
